JournalSuite of Dataplan is the ideal tool for page and production planning control. The core is JournalDesigner, being the link between the commercial ad-system and production. Planning of deadlines and topics is carried out during the page planning process. For this purpose JournalDesigner provides a planning system which facilitates backward scheduling starting from the publication date. All relevant elements of journal planning can thus be scheduled. Booked advertisements are taken from the ad-planning system. Editorial topics are assigned page by page in the course of structural planning. Editorial rough planning is carried out by a flexible paragraph and department planning. The created structure plan is delivered to the editorial system via an existing interface where it is constantly being validated and, in case of missed deadlines, escalated, if appropriate. All production-related meta data are fed back from the editorial system to JournalDesigner and thus allow for a comprehensive overview within the structure plan. For each processed document a layout draft can be displayed in addition to the processing status.

In terms of technology JournalDesigner is based on a central server application (PublicationServer). Al client and server components have been developed out of Java and are available in a platform-independent version for Windows and Mac OS X. Journal Designer is available as Rich Client with all page planning functions. On the web you can use JournalDesigner WebClient (limited planning functions) or JournalBrowser (read-only view). Data management is made via SQL data base, for example Oracle. Structural plannings can be versioned optionally.
