Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (DPS)
Adobe DPS is the standard solution for the production and delivery of interactive digital contents on tablet PCs such as Apple iPad, BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab, MOTOROLA XOOM and other Android-based output devices.
Adobe InDesign from version CS 5 is used for the production of interactive publications. Adobe InDesign CS 5.5 enhances the standards for creative media production by some integrated creative tools, enabling you to produce attractive layouts for your print and digital publications. Inclusive of interactive elements such as video and audio files.
Interactive documents can be directly uploaded from InDesign CS 5 resp. 5.5 to Adobe Digital Publishing Suite servers, and they can be published via several App Stores (iTunes, Google Marketplace, others will follow in the near future).
For this purpose the documents are first uploaded via an InDesign palette to the Adobe Folio Producer service. There they are enriched by advertisements and metadata and are assembled for one application. Prior to publication a test run is carried out on the target devices. The finished projects are finally released with a mouse click via the Adobe distribution service.
The production of the publications is free of charge, costs become due only for the release of the App.
In order to increase efficiency and for production automation, we recommend the use of vjoon K4. K4 is the basis for the process-controlled production of digital magazines, books, annual reports etc., for previews or for delivery to the Adobe distribution services.
As the production of periodicals often takes place under strong time pressure, the efficient workflows and automated background processes (e.g. for the conversion of layouts, typo revisions or the adaptation of frame sizes) are therefore very advantageous.
The Adobe distribution service keeps your edition ready for delivery via numerous App Stores to the different tablet devices. Currently the Apple iPad and other Android-compatible devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the RIM Blackberry Playbook are supported. Further devices will follow in the near future. Readers will be automatically informed about new contents and can download these in a format suitable for their devices.
Distribution is carried out via the respective App stores. The Adobe E-commerce service supports single and multiple sales as well as subscription-based sales (iApp purchase). Invoicing is made optionally via market places such as the Apple AppStore or Google One Pass or via third suppliers who can contribute further contents. The enterprise edition allows for the integration of the publishing company’s own invoicing and fulfilment systems. For example, publishers can directly bill their combined print and digital subscriptions or promotions, if the App Stores allow for this.
The tools of the Adobe Online Marketing Suite (based on Omnitures Site Catalyst) are used for the analysis of the readers’ behaviour or the use of advertisements. Delivery includes a dashboard for the evaluation of use and download behaviour. The Enterprise edition offers evaluation tools for interactive behaviour such as, for example, navigation paths, buying behaviour, measurement of times spent with one content element etc. For further analyses reports can be created and then be delivered to Adobe Site Catalyst.
Viewer Builder Service
The Viewer Builder Service enables you to create your own branded App for iOS, Android and in future other operating systems. The basic technology incl. of a standard navigation and elements such as, for example, the table of contents, is delivered by Adobe. The Viewer can be upgraded with your own CI elements, e.g. your logo (branded App).
