De Lloyd B.V., based in Antwerp, publishes three times a week the leading logistics trade journal in the Benelux countries: De Lloyd is published in Flemish and English, Le Lloyd in French and English. Further editions of the publisher are Transport Echo (bi-lingual), the ANTWERP MARITIME LAW REPORTS, Shortsea and many others. De Lloyd B.V. belongs to the Deutscher Verkehrs-Verlag publishing group, Hamburg.
The Task:
The task was to implement a new editorial system featuring new tools for the layout and image processing as well as the integration with an Asset Management System. The publishing house produced text-before-layout with a 4D-technology-based editorial system. Only database-stored texts could by processed; after having placed the texts in the layout (QuarkXPress) there was no feed-back to the text processing work stations. Thus a makeup-binding work was not possible. Due to the planned simultaneous relaunching of the projects of De Lloyd/Le Lloyd a software offering a modern integration of text, graphics, and images was required.
The editorial contents should be marketed via online platforms by means of the integration of the Asset Management System which was purchased at the same time. The conversion was carried out during the production process running parallel to a re-launch of De Lloyd/Le Lloyd. Further the editors’ workplaces were changed over from Mac OS 9 to Windows and the graphic designer workplaces from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X. In order to realise a simple solution for page planning with simultaneous integration of ad planning, SNAP developed and implemented CreatePages. A bi-directional interface to SoftCare K4 for image import and data transmission for archiving purposes was realised in order to integrate the Asset Management System myCONTENT of picturesafe. The completed pages are transferred to the printing house as .pdf files.
